My New Month’s Resolutions

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

I kind of figured out that I haven’t really been that productive lately. It’s not as if I’ve been doing nothing at all; quite the contrary: I’ve read a lot of papers, rewritten quite a bit of my literature research paper, discovered the joys of del.icio.us, Vienna and Growl, started my own blog, went to my first Girl Geek Dinner and celebrated my birthday. But I haven’t been able to stick to my deadlines, which I really have to start doing.

So because today is March the 1st, I’ve decided to make a list of my New Month’s Resolutions:

1. Deadlines are holy. I must stick to them no matter what.
2. I should write a new post for my blog every day.
3. No more ice cream!

Well, let’s see how long I can keep this up. The first is a must, but the second and third? We’ll see how they go ;-).

The origin of eBay

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

A couple of days ago I was watching one of those morning BBC auction shows and they said that eBay began because the founder wanted a place for his fiancee to trade PEZ candy dispensers. I actually believed that (gullible me), but decided to have a closer look into it.

Apparently it’s not completly true. The guy just created it, because he saw a gap in the market. His wife did trade PEZ dispensers and did have some trouble trading them. The public-relations manager of the company overheard this and used it as a way to attract the media.
