I think you miss the point, "No Heroics" wasn't *trying* to be like Heroes, it's a comedy show for starters, and it's about the everyday business of being a minor superhero rather than about saving the world or whatever it is that people do in Heroes.

You go on to say:

"To start off, as it is not based on any known characters there is no fan base, so to create one the writers need to compel the audience to bond with the characters. Classic ways of doing this would be something like an origin story, or a personal struggle with their super power responsibilities."

But hey, that's been done to death. Trust me, it has.

Personally, I'd go as far as to say that I usually find origin stories to be a bore. I'm probably too old to identify with that "taking your place in a bigger world" metaphor for adulthood thing that origin stories all seem to be about. In fact, the standard thing in movies is to leave them to a sequel or whatever. In comic books they might take years.

But I agree with your comments on the amount of sex jokes in "No Heroics" though. It gets a bit boring after a while. I also found the sheer dreariness of the characters' lives to be quite depressing. I was actually pleased to discover that the sixth episode was the final one because, as I watched it, I pretty much made up my mind that I'd stop watching the series altogether. :)
