I’m quite looking forward to the Iron Man sequel and I always love it when movies do some viral-y/ARG-y stuff to promote them. So far we haven’t seen that much in the Iron Man viral besides a bunch of mysterious websites, but I’m hoping now the release date is in sight we’ll get to see more.

The latest website is for AccuTech, a research and development company and a subsidiary of Stark Industries. Their message is that they’ll be premiering their latest breakthrough, the HazTech Exoskeleton, at the Stark Expo 2010, which is happening on the 7th of May… the release date of Iron Man 2 in the US.

I’m curious to see what else they’ll be showing and whether they’ll go into the ARG area like The Dark Knight and Tron Legacy.

Yeah, I know we’re already a month into 2010, but I still wanted to do a list of the movies I’m most excited for. These won’t be the best movies or the top grossing movies (otherwise I would have added the Twilight and the Harry Potter sequels), but these are the movies I personally am really looking forward to.

Alice In Wonderland – March 5th (US, UK)

I can’t wait for this movie! I’ve been keeping an eye on the IMAX website, waiting till the tickets will be released (I’m not even in the country on the actual release date, but still want to get seats as quick as possible). If you hadn’t heard about this little movie yet, it’s Tim Burton’s interpretation of Alice in Wonderland, starring new comer Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen and tons of more familiar actors. I’m a sucker for Alice In Wonderland stories/reinterpretations, and I love the look of this movie.

Alice-In-Wonderland

Kick-Ass – April 2nd (UK), April 16th (US)

The first two trailers I saw of Kick-Ass looked awesome, so much so that I’m now in Avoid All Marketing mode. I know I want to see this movie when it’s released and I just don’t want to be spoilt by any new trailers. I’m still a little bit scared about Nicholas Cage (when was his last good movie?), but my hopes are high. Kick-Ass is about a teenager (Aaron Johnson), who decides to become superhero after being inspired by the heroes of comic books. He soon comes across a mysterious vigilante called Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage), and his daughter Hit-Girl (Chloë Moretz).

Kick-Ass

Iron Man 2 – April 30th (UK), May 7th (US)

I wasn’t the hugest fan of the first Iron Man, but I still am excited for its sequel. The moment Samuel Jackson was revealed at the end of the last movie was one of my best cinema experiences (everyone was cheering together and it felt great). I know this movie is going to be a blast! Especially with Sam Rockwell and Mickey Rourke added to the cast. Not too sure about Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, but at least she does look the part!

Iron-Man-2

Robin Hood – May 14th (UK, US)

This is the one movie on this list I’m still really dubious about. So far it just looks like Gladiator in medieval times. But it’s Ridley Scott. And Russell Crowe. And freaking Robin Hood. I want to like this so much and be swept away as I was with Gladiator.

Robin-Hood

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time – May 28th (UK,US)

I love the look of the trailer; it reminds of The Mummy and Pirates of the Caribbean (in a good way). I think this is mainly going to be a fun action movie. It won’t win any awards or anything like that (and I have a feeling it might lean towards the cheesy side), but I think it’s going to be one of those movies I could watch over and over again.

Prince-of-Persia

The Last Airbender – July 2nd (US), August 13th (UK)

Yeah, I was addicted to the TV show, so it was kind of a given I’d be excited for the movie. As I said last week, I think the trailer looked awesome! I haven’t always been a fan of M Night Shyamalan, but I like how he’s staying true to the original (at least from what we’ve seen so far). I still have some doubts (like how will Appa and Momo look like?), so bring on the full length trailer!

The-Last-Airbender

Inception – July 16th (US)

Christopher Nolan is one of my favourite directors, mainly because of Memento and The Prestige. I mean, I loved Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, but I adore and love love love Nolan’s movies with unusual intricate story lines. Inception seems to fit right in along those lines with a trailer that looks complex and a completely mental. Yay, my type of movie! I love how Leonardo di Caprio has said in an interview that it “didn’t make sense to him” while shooting the movie.

Inception

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World – August 6th (UK), August 13th (US)

I know I shouldn’t be this excited for a movie of which I’ve only seen a handful of images. But everything I’ve seen so far just looks cool. The comic book has been on my wish list since I’ve heard of the movie, and I like the style of it all. Plus it’s being directed by Edgar Wright, the genius behind Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. I mean it can’t turn out bad, right?

Scott-Pilgrim

Rapunzel – November 24th (US)

I still haven’t seen Disney’s latest animation yet (The Princess and The Frog), but I’m already excited for Rapunzel. I grew up with the golden era Disney musicals (I was 6 when The Little Mermaid came out) and it’s great to see them going back to them. Plus Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi (Chuck!!!) as the main characters? Yay!

Rapunzel

Tron Legacy – December 17th (US)

And last but not least, Tron Legacy. It’s been ages since I last saw the original, and about time that I give it a rewatch. The footage we’ve seen so far of this sequel looks awesome!

Tron-Legacy

So do you agree with my choices? Or are there other movies you’re more excited in seeing?

Movie Preview: The A-Team

November 6th, 2009

I’ve been doubtful of this remake ever since I first heard of it. A remake of The A-Team? Seriously? Why? I loved the show as a kid, and it just seems such an unnecessary remake to, well, remake. And then the first casting rumours were released: Liam Neeson as Hannibal? He’s a great actor, but I can’t picture him as Hannibal. It just seems… wrong.

Other castings were Bradley Cooper as Lt. Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson as Sgt Bosco ‘B.A.’ Baracus and Sharlto Copley as Capt. ‘Howling Mad’ Murdock. Hmm, Bradley Cooper. Could work, but not as clean or slick as I always imagined Face to be. The other two? Haven’t seen either of them in movies (yeah, I still have to go see District 9), so can’t really say much about them.

The first official photo was released last week though, and we finally get to see our characters for the first time:

Movie Preview The A-Team

Interesting. I’m liking Rampage as B.A. (although I’ll can’t be convinced before he opens his mouth) and Sharlto Copley as Murdock. Bradley Cooper still on a “could work” for me, but with slightly better odds. Liam Neeson… I know people like how bad ass he looks, and some think he’s got the Hannibal look down. But for me? I’m still not feeling it. A part of me hopes I’m wrong and I’ll await further judgment until I see footage/trailer, but so far I’m just preparing myself to be disappointed.

I’ve been avidly following all the coverage from Comic Con; with attendees Twittering and live blogging, it almost feels like you’re there yourself (nah, not really: no sweaty people, no waiting in queues, but then again no seeing really cool features and the celebrities up close). At last year’s Comic Con the great surprise was a very early teaser of the at-that-time-not-even-announced sequel to Tron. This year we get some more VFX concept footage, showing a bit more of the actual world.

After a couple of temporary names like Tron2, Tron 2.0, Tr2N, it’s now finally be revealed to be called Tron Legacy. I won’t say anything more, just watch the footage first (there’s also a high def version available on the site Flynn Lives, which I’d highly recommend seeing):

Yep, if you hadn’t come across it yet, Jeff Bridges returns as Kevin Flynn! I think this trailer looks awesome; it’s been ages ago that I last saw the first movie, but I just love the visual style, and it looks like this could be a worthy follow-up.

Curious Fact of the Day: Tron was disqualified from the Academy Awards nominations for best visual effects, because using computers was deemed “cheating”.

We’ve seen a couple of trailers for 9 already, and it’s definitely one of the movies I’m most excited for. Firstshowing has featured the latest posters for 9’s release, and they’re a series of character posters, each one featuring one of the 9 rag dolls. I thought I’d expand a little bit on that and give the descriptions that we have so far about each of the characters:

1: is the oldest of the dolls, and their self-proclaimed leader. He is clever and sly, but also domineering, irritable, quick-tempered, and slow, if not unwilling, to trust 9. Voiced by Christopher Plummer.

9 Poster #1

2: a kind, delicate old inventor. He is fascinated by garbage, and loves to explore the wastelands and look for parts for his inventions. He is not in very good shape, always walking with a cane, and can only see with a lorgnette. Voiced by Martin Landau.

9 Poster #2

3 and 4: curious but shy twin dolls. They are unable to speak, using flickering lights to communicate with each other, but when they need to explain things to someone else, their eyes turn into film projectors. They instinctively run and hide at the sight of danger.

9 Poster #3 and #4

5: healer, tutor, and skilled mechanic. He is the journeyman of 2, the great engineer and inventor. He is a diligent worker, a meek spirit, and a devoted friend. He is missing his left eye, which he presumably lost in a previous monster attack. Voiced by John C. Reilly.

9 Poster #5

6: a wild and impulsive artist. He has visions of the past and future, channeling his visions through drawings to interpret them, which are accurate in predicting events and help solve mysteries that puzzle 9. Voiced by Crispin Glover.

9 Poster #6

7: a female warrior. A rebel and a loner, she is fearless and brave. She is impatient and can be reckless and stubborn, but makes up for it with mobility and grace, caution of her surroundings, and calmness in dangerous situations. Voiced by Jennifer Connelly.

9 Poster #7

8: a giant, cumbersome brute. He is 1’s personal bodyguard and would die for him, though he is crude and mocking towards everyone else. He is strong and fierce, wielding two masterful weapons, but isn’t very clever and is easily deceived. Voiced by Fred Tatasciore.

9 Poster #8

9: the main character. Good-hearted, thoughtful, and sincere, he is always willing to risk his life to save others. Despite being a newcomer to the group, he displays leadership qualities that can help the others survive. He seeks truth in the history of the world and the dolls, and wishes to know the meaning of life. Voiced by Elijah Wood.

9 Poster #9

I love this series of posters and they’re a great introduction to all these different characters. I can’t wait for this movie to come out!
