I liked how The Hunger Games movie turned out, but it’s still interesting to see how it might have been if another director had done it. This video pitch from Kevin Tancharoen is pretty much a mashup of different movies, but it looks awesome!

I so wished Zac Efron had been casted as Peeta; I think he fits way better as my image of Peeta than Josh Hutcherson.

“If I had remained invisible, the truth would remain hidden.”

So speaks one of the characters from Cloud Atlas. It’s also a line that Lana Wachowski quotes in her speech at the Human Rights Campaign Gala where she accepted their Visibility Award. In July she and her brother appeared in an intro video to the 5 minute trailer for Cloud Atlas, making it their first public appearance since The Matrix and making it Lana’s first public appearance as Lana. In her HRC speech Lana tells about her choice of “coming out” to the public and about the fine lines between visibility and invisibility. It’s a beautiful, inspiring and moving speech:

I’m not really much of a Lord of The Rings fan and I’m not excited for The Hobbit at all, but this video from Air New Zealand and WETA is pretty cool:

Did you recognize Peter Jackson? There are also some other cameos in the video, like the grandsons of Tolkien, but I have a feeling I’m not recognizing some of the more obvious ones.

You’ve all heard the news, right? Disney bought Lucasfilm yesterday for $4 billion… and they’re bringing out Star Wars Episode 7 in 2015, with plans to release more Star Wars movie every other year: so Star Wars Episode 8 in 2017 and Star Wars Episode 9 in 2019 (wow, that feels so far away still).

George Lucas sat down with Kathleen Kennedy, the new president of Lucasfilm, and talked about the future of Star Wars:

I’m surprised by the news (as everybody is), but I’m excited by this move! I think Marvel and Pixar have done quite well under the Disney brand, so I’m curious to see what they’ll end up doing. Plus George Lucas won’t be as involved as he was as the previous 3 Star Wars movies, which is only a good thing in my eyes.

What do you think of Disney buying Lucasfilm? Good move?

I never quite know whether I should watch The Nightmare Before Christmas before Christmas or before Halloween… Either way I’d love to have a Sally costume one time for Halloween:

This one you can get from the etsy store Smarmy Clothes for $175 (it will be custom made for your size).

I’ve got 3 mini reviews for you today: Skyfall, Frankenweenie and Madagascar 3. All three movies should still be in cinemas at the moment; if you have to pick one, choose Skyfall!

Skyfall

Awesome. I went to see this yesterday at the IMAX and loved (almost) every bit of it. Daniel Craig is again perfect as Bond. Javier Bardem is great as the villain, part crazy, part creepy with a touch of genius. And I loved Judi Dench and Ben Whishaw as M and Q. I think the only thing that bugged me was the London tube stations and interiors; as a Londoner I couldn’t fail to notice how wrong some of the bits were (still it was loads better than Total Recall where it was supposed to be London, but they used New York style trains and stations). Skyfall is a great movie though and I think it may be my favourite Bond movie ever.

Frankenweenie

I think I would have liked this a whole lot more if I a) hadn’t seen the trailer and b) hadn’t seen the short film it was based on. It’s a sweet story about a boy and his dog, but a lot of it is predictable and those parts that weren’t were already in the trailer or in the short movie. I did love how it looked though. The black and white visuals looked a bit meh in 2D, but in 3D it becomes so much more vivid and alive.

Madagascar 3

Circus Afro, Circus Afro, Polka Dot, Polka Dot, Circus Afro. I can’t get that song out of my head (I tried typing out the da da da bits, but I just got crazy counting the da’s and trying to figure out how it phonetically would make sense). I enjoyed the first Madagascar and was pleasantly surprised by its first sequel. So I was quite curious to see how well this third movie would do. This time around our 4 furry friends want to get back home to New York and join a circus in the hope of reaching their destination. The plot is a bit predictable, but it’s fun and enjoyable.

It’s Skyfall day! As I said in my previous post, I’m so excited to see this movie. I’ve heard so many good reviews about it and am really curious to see if it’s any good. I loved loved loved Casino Royale, and hated Quantum of Solace. We need a good Bond movie again! Are you planning to see Skyfall this weekend?

Our second Bond related post of the day is this fun campaign from Heineken for the new Skyfall movie. Help Daniel Craig and Berenice Marlohe to crack the case, in this interactive personal experience. Do you have what it takes to be a special agent?

So did you play it? I did find it funny seeing my own photo placed everywhere; I chose a black and white photo of myself and thought they managed to embed it quite neatly. I was a bit disappointed by the game though. I was expecting at least a bit of code cracking or puzzling, but all you need to do is find the case and click on it. If that’s all it takes to become a special agent…

Cool Stuff: Licence To Drive

October 26th, 2012

Yay, Skyfall is out today in the UK! So I’m celebrating that today with a couple of Bond related posts. I’ve got myself some tickets to the IMAX tomorrow, and can’t wait to see it!

This is a cool infographic from Evans Halshaw featuring the different Bond cars through the years. They’ve also got a pretty cool interactive version which you can check out here.

James Bond 007 Cars Evolution

Everyone has a favourite Bond – and a favourite Bond girl – but what’s your favourite Bond car? Infographic by Evans Halshaw. View the interactive version here.

Evil Dead

I love the original Evil Dead movies, so I’m not that excited to see a remake of the first one. Especially one that is gorier and more gruesome. Part of the charm of the original is how cheesy and creepy the effects were. This new one just looks like gore for the sake of gore. Release Date: April 2013 (US, UK)

Carrie

Another remake movie, but this one I’m actually interested in seeing. I think Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore have been perfectly cast in this and can’t wait to see how they turn out. Release Date: March 2013 (US), April 2013 (UK)

Safe Haven

Safe Haven is about a young woman with a mysterious past who lands in Southport, North Carolina where her bond with a widower forces her to confront the dark secret that haunts her. It’s based on a Nicholas Sparks book (The Notebook, Dear John, Message In A Bottle), so get your tissues ready. Release Date: February 2013 (US)

Django Unchained

There’s already been a previous trailer for this new Tarantino movie, but this latest one shows a bit more of DiCaprio’s character. Release Date: December 2013 (US), January 2013 (UK)

Trailerrific: Iron Man 3

October 23rd, 2012

Ooooooh, the first trailer for Iron Man 3 just got released! This looks great:
