I love the theory of the uncanny valley, and it surprises me how many people have never heard about it. I usually suck when trying to explain it to people, but next time I just should use this funny little video:

Great video, ta. To me, dolls have always been right in the middle of the uncanny valley. They really scared me silly as a child. Still do!

It’s interesting how the first technological area to seriously consider the dilemma of the almost human automaton is the electronic game industry. I don’t think Isaac Asimov could have thought of that one back in the 1950s. I suppose Walt Disney and co. confronted the Valley syndrome as early as the 1960s, though with the icky Abraham Lincoln and other “automatronics”.
