Episode 102: “A bald man, he falls over, good story”
The first time I saw the CompareTheMeerkat TV commercial I didn’t find it funny at all; but somehow this silly little ad has grown on me. Here’s the newest “ad” made out of bloopers:
Staying in the realm of “cute” fuzzy animals, here’s another ad from the IET:
It almost works, but there’s something missing, right? You expect a funnier climax than “Evolve quicker”.
Episode 100: “Frank Langella was sitting right next to me”
This is my 100th Video Of The Day! And for that special number two special videos.
I love watching the Oscar ceremony, but to be honest most of the time it can be quite boring. And seeing as it’s here from 1am to 5am, I almost always tend to fall asleep somewhere during it. This year though it was so fun and interesting, I stayed awake the entire time.
While the whole evening was full of great moments, my two favourite bits were when Hugh Jackman was performing. Here’s the opening sequence:
I love love love the part where Anne Hathaway joins in! And that end part… wow.
Then there was a second musical number where Hugh performed together with Beyonce, Vanessa Hudgens, Zac Efron, Amanda Seyfried, and Dominic Cooper.
While I’m not a fan of High School Musical and Mamma Mia!, I have to admit those actors do sing great. I hope there will be more movie musicals, but I don’t get the whole “let’s adapt a stage musical”. Why not create something new?
I love the idea of flash mobs, even though I’ve never actually participated in one myself yet. I went to last year’s Real Life Rickroll at Liverpool Street Station, but I didn’t know the lyrics so couldn’t really sing along.
If you don’t know what a flash mob is, it’s basically a large group of people meeting somewhere and doing something unusual. For instance, the one that I went to was to get as much people together during rush hour at Liverpool Street station and sing Never Gonna Give You Up from Rick Astley and then leave. You can imagine the amazement of all the people who hadn’t heard about it beforehand. Another example is the Ninja attack. I don’t remember where it was exactly, but a group of people dressed as ninjas started fighting each other in a busy park.
While I do like how the people there responded to it, I’m a bit annoyed by it. All those people dancing have got to be professionals, right? Or at least hired to do this dance. Somehow this would have made more sense, more impact, to me, if they had organized this like an actual flash mob. Get actual people, who want to do it for the fun of it, not because they are payed to do it. Am I the only one who thinks this?
Episode 96: “fortune cookies… they are more American than anything else”
I love listening to TED talks; they’re always interesting, yet fun to listen to. This one features Jennifer 8. Lee talking about the origins of familiar Chinese-American dishes and how not that Chinese they actually are. It’s 16 minutes long, but definitely worth watching:
I’m loving this Dutch commercial from Heineken (even though it’s playing a bit on stereotypes). There’s a little bit in Dutch, but you don’t have to understand that to follow the commercial:
Don’t switch this video off if the first couple of seconds might seem familiar. This is an updated version of the Shift Happens video from a few years back, but now with added statistics of 2008:
Episode 93: “I don’t think the dead care about vengeance”
Not too long ago I posted a trailer mash-up of Toy Story and The Dark Knight (see post). Here’s a similar trailer, but now for The Incredibles and Quantum of Solace:
