About Miss Geeky
Miss Geeky is a blog about all things geeky and girly. I’ll often feature reviews, previews and trailers of geeky things like movies, TV shows, video games and books, but also girly things like makeup and fashion.
In January 2007 I moved to London and I started a blog to let my friends back home know what I was up to. I realized though I mainly wrote about stuff I like, and a couple of months later MissGeeky was born.
Who am I?
I’m Melinda Seckington, a geeky girl living in London. I am a developer at FutureLearn, a social learning platform backed by the Open University, blogger here at MissGeeky and event organizer at Geeks of London.
I have a Masters degree in Computer Science, specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Have you ever watched the TV show Lie To Me? My research was based on the psychology theories featured in that show, creating an automatic system that could distinguish between fake and real smiles.
For the past 7 years I’ve also been super involved in the London tech community, attending BarCamps, Hackdays and other tech meetups. Since 2007 I have also been organizing these events, taking care of the marketing, sponsorships and venue management.
Why am I Miss Geeky?
I’ve been geeky my whole life; I don’t think there has ever been a time that I didn’t see myself as a geek.
Since the age of 6, I’ve been addicted to TV shows (my first geeky passion) and still follow at least 20 shows at a time. I love and am obsessed about movies, so much so that my friends used to call me a walking IMDB. I read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy books and I own more than 500 of them. I get easily hooked on video games; I’ve had my share of all-nighters playing on till daylight.
So, is that geeky enough?
