Olympus Has Fallen

Die Hard in the White House. This looks awesome. I think it will be a bit over the top and ridiculous, but it looks like so much fun. It stars Gerard Butler as the ex secret service member who’s the only one not captured when the White House comes under attack. Aaron Echkart plays the President, while Morgan Freeman plays the Speaker of the House.

Release Date: 22 March (US), 19 April (UK)

Red 2

I loved Red. It was a great combination of action, humour and great casting, and this sequel looks like more of the same! This time around Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren and Mary-Louise Parker are joined by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Byung-hun Lee and Anthony Hopkins.

Release Date: 2 August (UK, US)

Emperor

As the Japanese surrender at the end of WWII, General Douglas MacArthur (Tommy Lee Jones) finds himself the de facto ruler of Japan. He turns to General Bonner Fellers (Matthew Fox), an expert in Japanese culture, to investigate whether the Japanese emperor Hirohito should be hanged for war crimes.

Release Date: 8 March (US)

At Any Price

A farming family’s business is threatened by an unexpected crisis, further testing the relationship between a father (Dennis Quaid) and his rebellious son (Zac Efron).

Release Date: 2013

It’s been a week full of interesting trailers! I somehow missed blogging about these two, so I thought I’d catch up with that tonight.

The first is Pacific Rim, directed by Guillermo del Toro. Giant Robots versus Giant Monsters!

The second is directed by M. Night Shyamalan and stars Will and Jaden Smith as a father and son who crash-land on an abandoned Earth.

Trailerrific: Man of Steel

December 11th, 2012

Ooh, this looks good.

Trailerrific: Oblivion

December 8th, 2012

Okay, this looks awesome! I’m not exactly sure what is going on in the trailer, but it looks like Oblivion could be a fun sci-fi ride. It’s written and directed by Joseph Kosinski and is based on Kosinski’s graphic novel of the same name. He previously did Tron Legacy, which I enjoyed even if the story was a bit sucky, so I’m curious to see how Oblivion turns out.

What the hell is exactly going on there? I love the look of the movie and I’m hoping the story is smart and twisty. It looks like there’s going to be some twist with Jack and the mysterious girl… I think this might go on my Avoid-All-Trailers list, I think this could be a movie I could be pleasantly surprised by!

I can’t wait for the next Star Trek movie! I really enjoyed the “first” one and loved how they used time travel to change the Star Trek universe while still staying in canon. We now get a glimpse of the new movie in this teaser trailer:

So who is Benedict Cumberbatch playing?

It’s been more than a month since I’ve done a trailer roundup! With the final Twilight movie finally being released, most of those trailers seem to be aimed at the Twilight crowd; which movie will be the next angsty teen paranormal box-office hit?

Now You See Me

A magician heist movie? Count me in. This looks like it could be a lot of fun, and it’s got an awesome cast: Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Woody Harrelson, Melanie Laurent, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine. This could be a lot of fun indeed.
Release Date: 7 June 2013 (US), 21 June 2013 (UK)

Beautiful Creatures

One for the Twihards. This paranormal teen romance is about Lean, a 15 year old witch who will need to choose between Light and Dark on her sixteenth birthday. It looks like a weird and gorgeous world, albeit a bit goofy.
Release Date: 13 February 2013 (US, UK)

The Host

This looks good! I know it’s written by Twilight’s Stephanie Meyer, but it’s directed by Andrew Niccol and I’ve always enjoyed his movies.
Release Date: 29 March 2013 (US, UK)

Dark Skies

As the Barret family’s peaceful suburban life is rocked by an escalating series of disturbing events, they come to learn that a terrifying and deadly force is after them. Ooh, aliens! I used to watch a ton of alien abduction TV movies, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen one.
Release Date: 22 February 2013 (US)

Jack The Giant Slayer

This looks cheesy as hell, but I kind of want to see it. Ewan McGregor’s hair! Those giants! It looks ridiculous and so-shiny-it-can’t-be-real fake, but part of me doesn’t care.
Release Date: 1 March 2013 (US), 22 March 2013 (UK)

Epic

I like the look of this movie, even though it does seem a bit like an updated version of Fern Gully. I’m not sure about the title though; it doesn’t seem that “Epic”.
Release Date: 24 May 2013 (US, UK)

The Heat

I didn’t like Bridesmaids at all, so it doesn’t surprise me that I’m not liking this new movie from the same director. If you liked Bridesmaids, chance are you’ll like this.
Release Date: 5 April 2013 (US, UK)

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

I’ve got the books lying around, but I still haven’t gotten around to reading them. It looks like it could be fun, but the acting and effect don’t look that promising. Still it can’t be as bad as Twilight.
Release Date: 23 August 2013 (US, UK)

Evil Dead

I love the original Evil Dead movies, so I’m not that excited to see a remake of the first one. Especially one that is gorier and more gruesome. Part of the charm of the original is how cheesy and creepy the effects were. This new one just looks like gore for the sake of gore. Release Date: April 2013 (US, UK)

Carrie

Another remake movie, but this one I’m actually interested in seeing. I think Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore have been perfectly cast in this and can’t wait to see how they turn out. Release Date: March 2013 (US), April 2013 (UK)

Safe Haven

Safe Haven is about a young woman with a mysterious past who lands in Southport, North Carolina where her bond with a widower forces her to confront the dark secret that haunts her. It’s based on a Nicholas Sparks book (The Notebook, Dear John, Message In A Bottle), so get your tissues ready. Release Date: February 2013 (US)

Django Unchained

There’s already been a previous trailer for this new Tarantino movie, but this latest one shows a bit more of DiCaprio’s character. Release Date: December 2013 (US), January 2013 (UK)

Trailerrific: Iron Man 3

October 23rd, 2012

Ooooooh, the first trailer for Iron Man 3 just got released! This looks great:

The Last Stand

Arnie is back! This looks like it could be a lot of fun. It’s the first English movie from director Kim Jee-woon, who did A Tale of Two Sisters and The Good, The Bad and The Weird (which I still need to watch). Release Date: 18 January 2013 (US), 25 January 2013 (UK)

Butter

In small-town Iowa, an adopted girl discovers her talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against an ambitious local woman in their town’s annual contest. This could be interesting; it’s got Hugh Jackman and Olivia Wilde in it, so there’s no doubt I’m not going to see it. I’m not sure about Jennifer Garner’s character though. I used to love her in Alias, but since then I’ve just found her annoying in everything else. Release Date: 5 October (US)

The Impossible

I hand’t heard about this movie previously, but wow, that’s one powerful trailer. It’s about a family (Ewan McGregor, Naomi Watts, and three kid actors) who get split up during the 2004 tsunami. Release Date: 21 December (US), 4 January (UK)

Playing For Keeps

A former sports star (Gerard Butler) who’s fallen on hard times starts coaching his son’s soccer team in an attempt to get his life together.

10 Years

This trailer made me realize that it’s 10 years ago I graduated from high school. I wonder how it would be to see everyone form high school again after 10 years. What is everyone doing now? Release Date: 14 September 2012 (US)

The To Do List

A recent high-school grad (Aubrey Plaza) feels pressured to become more sexually experienced before she goes to college. Release Date: 2013 (US, UK)

Trailer time! Which trailers have you watched this week? What do you think of the trailers below?

Seven Psychopaths

From the director/writer of In Bruges… I loved In Bruges and I think this movie could be a lot of fun! It looks so ridiculous and cool at the same time. Release Date: 12 October (US)

Red Dawn

I still haven’t watched the original movie, but this looks great! Chris Hemsworth is awesome and looks like he’ll kick ass. I’m not sure about the other actors (including Peeta Josh Hutcherson), but I think this could be a fun action packed movie. Release Date: 21 November (US)

Tai Chi 0

Wow, this looks awesome. Martial arts plus steampunk? Brilliant. It was filmed back to back with its sequel, Tai Chi Hero, so expect that movie coming out next year too! Release Date: October 2012 (US)

Anitviral

This looks weird and crazy, which makes sense given it comes from Brandon Cronenberg, the son of director David Cronenberg. Release Date: 2012

Deadfall

I wasn’t that impressed with this trailer, but I tend to end up liking the movies Olivia Wilde chooses to be in, So I’m willing to give it a shot. It’s about two siblings (Olivia Wilde and Eric Bana) who are on the run after robbing a casino.Release Date: December 2012 (US)

The Paperboy

Woah, Nicole Kidman looks trashy. I’m not too sure what to expect with this movie, it’s got a bit of a weird vibe going on. Release Date: October 2012 (US)

Pitch Perfect

This looks cheesy as hell and is completely jumping on the Glee bandwagon, but I still want to watch it. Release Date: October (US, UK)
