Giveaway time! I’ve just finished reading the first book in this series and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Here’s the description of the first book:

On the night Malcolm and Maud Angel are murdered, their daughter, Tandy, knows just three things: 1. She was one of the last people to see her parents alive. 2. She and her brothers are the only suspects. 3. She can’t trust anyone – maybe not even herself. Having grown up under their parents’ intense perfectionist demands, none of the Angel children have come away undamaged.

Tandy decides that she will have to solve the crime on her own, but digging deeper into her powerful parents’ affairs is a dangerous game. As she uncovers haunting secrets and slowly begins to remember flashes of disturbing past events buried in her memory, Tandy is forced to ask: What is the Angel family truly capable of?

FutureLearn Is Live!

September 20th, 2013

It’s alive, it’s alive…

For the past 5 months, I’ve been working on FutureLearn, a massive online open course system backed by the Open University, and on Wednesday it went live. Registered users will be able to signup for courses from a wide range of topics, like Begin Programming and The Secret Power of Brands, with the first courses running in October. Here’s a short intro video:

The past week has been hectic, awesome, fun and exciting. I got to go to the press event on Wednesday morning and it’s been cool to see the responses of everyone and the news coverage it has generated. FutureLearn has gotten pieces on the BBC, the Telegraph, Times Higher Education, Techcrunch and more. This is the first time a project I’ve worked on has had this amount of coverage, but it’s been so much fun to work on it all.

For the rest of Wednesday we were in standby mode for most of the day, just in case anything went haywire, but it was also a day of celebrating with pub lunch, champagne and cupcakes:

FutureLearn Cupcakes

You can sign up at FutureLearn.com. Let me know in the comments below if you’ve enrolled on any of the courses; I’m excited to see what you all think of it!

Trailerrific: New Fall TV Shows

September 15th, 2013

It’s that awesome time of the year again when our beloved TV shows return back to our screens and we get introduced to a bunch of lovely potential new addictions. There are a ton of new shows this year and as always it’s going to be interesting to see which ones survive and which ones don’t. I’ve highlighted only the shows that I’m going to attempt to watch, but there are quite some others that will also premiere this month.

Agents of Shield

I’m so excited for this! I am wondering just how much Agents of Shield will overlap with and refer to the upcoming movies, but I can’t wait to see how it all turns out. Plus it’s got a kickass character called Melinda…

Premiere date: Tuesday 24th of September on ABC

Almost Human

There aren’t that many good scifi shows on TV and I love the look of Almost Human. It reminds me a bit of Total Recall 2070, but visually looks much better. Fingers crossed the story is good and not just a murder-a-week type show.

Premiere date: Monday 4th of November on Fox

The Blacklist

After one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives (James Spader) surrenders in person at FBI headquarters, he claims he wants to work together with the FBI to take down the world’s most dangerous criminals and terrorists, but will only talk to a rookie FBI profiler… The setup is intriguing and I’m guessing it will go down the “can we trust this guy” route for at least the first season.

Premiere date: Monday 23rd of September on NBC

The Michael J Fox Show

Yay, Michael J Fox is back on TV and in his own show! This looks hilarious and I think it’s going to be awesome. Want to bet that he gets nominated for the Emmy’s and Golden Globes next year?

Premiere date: Thursday 26th of September on NBC

The Crazy Ones

I’m not convinced by this trailer yet, but I’m willing to try it out, purely for the combination of Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Premiere date: Thursday 26th of September on CBS

The Originals

I still need to finish the last season of The Vampire Diaries, but I’ve always loved the characters that this spinoff will be revolving around. Klaus has always been more evil than likeable though, and I’m curious to see if he can carry this show.

Premiere date: Thursday 3rd of October on The CW, moves to Tuesdays after that

Intelligence

I’m cheating a bit with this one here, cause Intelligence is only going to air mid season. I love the look of it though, despite having to throw a healthy dose of suspension of disbelief at it.

Premiere date: Monday 24th of February on CBS

I only realised today that the second season of The Legend of Korra started yesterday. Yay! I really enjoyed the first season, and it’s going to be cool to see where they take it next.

So to celebrate that I’m featuring these cool designs by Robby Cook, mashing up Disney and Avatar together. I like how each princess is actually an element bender that makes sense: Ariel as a water bender, Pocahontas as an air bender, I don’t think I disagree with any of them!

Which one is your favourite?

I bought this dress last weekend and I’m so happy with how pretty it looks! It’s got a cool metallic tree print, an interesting neckline and a flattering full skirt (with pockets!). Plus it looks awesome on me, which obviously is always a good thing!

Hensley-Tree-Dress

What I didn’t realise though was that I already had blogged about last year’s version of this dress! I was gutted to miss out on that dress then, but didn’t dare ordering online, cause I wasn’t sure how the fit would have been. Fingers crossed they bring out another print next year?

Coming Soon: September Movies

September 10th, 2013

I can’t believe it’s September already! This post was actually meant for a week ago, but as usual it’s been super busy. These are the movies coming out this month that I’m looking forward to and most probably will try to see in the cinema. At the end of the post you can find a list of other movies coming out as well. Which ones are you most looking forward to?

About Time

About Time

About Time is a romantic comedy with time travel written and directed by Richard Curtis, the guy behind Love Actually, Four Weddings And A Funeral and Notting Hill. Love Actually is one of my favourite romantic comedies, so I’m really curious to see how this slightly sci-fi slanted one turns out!

Release Date: Wednesday 4th September

Riddick

Riddick

I always thought Pitch Black was an interesting movie, but although its sequel had bigger budget, bigger cast, etc, it never felt like it was in the same universe. Riddick feels much more like the original… dark and gloomy planet, creepy aliens and Vin Diesel kicking ass.

Release Date: Wednesday 4th September

Rush

Rush

I used to watch a lot of F1 as a kid, so really curious to see how Rush turns out. I’ve heard quite some good things about it already!

Release Date: Friday 13th September

In A World

In A World…

In a world where one underachieving vocal coach (Lake Bell) is motivated by her father, the king of movie-trailer voice-overs, to pursue her aspirations of becoming a voiceover star. This looks like so much fun!

Release Date: Friday 13th September

White House Down

White House Down

This is the second “White House being attacked” movie this year, but I think it might be the better one. If “better” means more explosions, more cheese and more action, that is. I think Olympus Has Fallen took itself a little bit too serious, while White House Down looks much more over-the-top and fun.

Release Date: Friday 13th September

Others

  • Any Day Now – Friday 6th September
  • Insidious 2 – Friday 13th September
  • The Call – Friday 20th September
  • Cold Comes The Night – Friday 20th September
  • Diana – Friday 20th September
  • R.I.P.D – Friday 20th September
  • Prisoners – Friday 27th September
  • Blue Jasmine – Friday 27th September
  • Girl Most Likely – Friday 27th September
  • Runner Runner – Friday 27th September

What if Game of Thrones was a romantic comedy?

I’m gutted I missed this t-shirt design on TeeFury a few days back:

Minions Have The Phone Box

Despicable Me minions and the TARDIS! TeeFury only sells each design for one day, so there’s no way to buy this one at the moment, unless it’s voted up again.
