Coming Soon: November Movies

November 10th, 2013

We’re already a week into November, but seeing as most movies in my list will be released at the end of the month, I don’t think I’m too late with this post.

Gravity

Gravity

I went to see Gravity at the IMAX yesterday and I loved it! I’ve been looking forward to this movie for ages, trying to avoid all the trailers leading up to it. I won’t say anything really about it expect: it’s definitely the type of movie you need to see on an as large as possible screen.

Release Date: Friday 8 November

The Hunger Games - Catching Fire

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

This looks good! I’ve read all the books and really enjoyed the first movie. I can’t wait to see what they make of this one.

Release Date: Thursday 21 November

The Family

The Family

I hadn’t actually heard about The Family, until I saw a trailer of it last week. It’s directed by Luc Besson (Leon, The Fifth Element) and stars Robert de Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Dianna Agron and John D’Leo as a mafia family who through the witness protection program relocate to France.

Release Date: Friday 22 November

Carrie

Carrie

I’m still not convinced we need a remake of Carrie, but the casting of both Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore just sounds so spot on!

Release Date: Friday 29 November

Saving Mr Banks

Saving Mr Banks

I’m a huge Disney fa, so obviously I’m curious to see how Saving Mr Banks turns out. It stars Tom Hanks as Walt Disney and Emma Thompson as P.L. Travers, the author of Mary Poppins.

Release Date: Friday 29 November

Other movie releases:

A few weeks back I got invited to a blogger’s launch event for Lifetime UK, a new UK TV channel aimed at women. It was a fun evening of learning how to make cocktails and meeting other girly/geeky bloggers. The new channel launched last week on channels Sky 156 and Virgin 242 with a couple of great shows.

Here’s the promo:

I love the look of Witches of East End! It stars Julia Ormond, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Rachel Boston, and Mädchen Amick as a family of (obviously) witches. It definitely looks like a show I should be watching. I’ve also heard interesting things about The Client List, although it just got cancelled in the US. It stars Jennifer Love Hewitt as a struggling mom who start working at a massage parlour that do more than just massages.

Witches of East End is aired each Tuesday at 10pm, while The Client List is aired Mondays at 10pm. If you haven’t seen them yet, the first episodes of both shows though are airing tonight at 9pm and 10pm. Those are just the shows that I have my eye on; to see a full list of what Lifetime are showing, check out the new website.

When is a dress a dress? I bought two what-I-thought-were-dresses last Sunday at Dorothy Perkins. Only it turns out that both of them aren’t on the website as dresses, but as tunics…

The first one is a black polka dot flare dress:

I admit it does look a bit too short on the model and for her I’d say it is a tunic. On me though, it falls longer than that (to about two-thirds of my thigh).

And here’s the second one:

Again it’s pretty similar; it falls much longer for me than for the model. I love both these “dresses” though; I’ve only had them a week, but they’re both comfy and pretty.

I ordered these Mass Effect earrings last week and they look great! On the one side you have the Paragon symbol, on the other the Renegade. It’s the geek version of having an angel and devil on your shoulder.

I love having earrings with two different designs, even though most people don’t even notice it. These are now the third in my collection (the others: @ & # and two space invaders), but I’m looking for more; any ideas?

You can get these earrings from Sanshee.com for only $15.99.

It was initially the cover of this booked that grabbed my eye, but then I read the premise: Cinderella as an assassin! This sounds like it could be a fun read:

Here’s the description from Amazon:

Meet Celaena Sardothien.

Beautiful. Deadly. Destined for greatness.

In the dark, filthy salt mines of Endovier, an eighteen-year-old girl is serving a life sentence. She is a trained assassin, the best of her kind, but she made a fatal mistake. She got caught.

Young Captain Westfall offers her a deal: her freedom in return for one huge sacrifice. Celaena must represent the prince in a to-the-death tournament – fighting the most gifted thieves and assassins in the land. Live or die, Celaena will be free. Win or lose, she is about to discover her true destiny. But will her assassin’s heart be melted?

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas is available for £3.85 on Amazon.co.uk and $8.99 on Amazon.com.

This came out a while back and chances are most of you have seen it, but I was reminded of it again at last Thursday’s Geeky Science and realized I hadn’t actually blogged about it at the time. So good:
