Fashion Focus: DUO Boots Sale

January 31st, 2010

I blogged about DUO Boots a couple of months ago; these boots are just so gorgeous! And yet I still haven’t gotten a pair yet (mainly cause my current set of boots are still fine and I can’t really justify getting a new pair), but now they’re having a sale… so I’m tempted. So very tempted.

The great thing about DUO is that they offer calf-fitted boots. So besides just giving your foot size, you also get to specify your calf width for the perfect fit. Here are a couple of my favourites:

There are tons more on the DUO Boots site. I have no idea till when this sale is though, so if you want to get a pair, I wouldn’t wait too long!

Fashion Focus: Kate Spade

Another two dresses I’ve fallen for:

Graphic Garland Nelly Sweater Dress in black/red/purple and black/cream – $375

Kate-Spade-Dress-1

Broome Street Rosie Dress in black/cream – $355

Kate-Spade-Dress-2

I love the black, red and purple colour combo in both dresses!

Last year in April I wrote about a cool Etsy shop I had come across that sells tattoo socks, see-through socks with tattoo-like designs printed on them. Since then they’ve added a couple more designs to the store and I knew I had to share them with you:

Tattoo-Socks-1

A Twitter “follow me” design! Not sure whether I’d ever wear this, but I know some people who would love these socks!

Tattoo-Socks-2

The Octopus one is super cute! Although this one is my favourite design:

Tattoo-Socks-3

There are 6 different colours, but it depends per design which colours are available: white, ultra pale, light mocha, deep mocha, cafe latte and grey. The socks come in knee-high and thigh-high length, in sizes S-XXL, and the prices range from $13-$23.

Check out the Etsy store to see more designs and to get a pair for yourself.

I really liked this year’s Project Runway finalists and from all of them I found Carol Hannah’s my favourite. Via A Cup of Jo I found out she has an Etsy store!

The dresses are all outside my current budget, but surprisingly not TOO far out of my current budget, all ranging from $180-$300. Here are my two favourites:

Afternoon Cupcakes Dress – $195

“You know those go-to pieces in your closet? The ones you reach for first when you’re running late or are having a lazy day? The ones you hope to goodness aren’t in the dirty laundry hamper? File this dress under that category!

Perfect for an afternoon stroll, shopping, or meeting friends for coffee and cupcakes.

Long sleeved jersey dress with clean scoop neck and skirt featuring six cascading draped points. Tie at waist….and pockets! (Oh, how I loovvvve pockets!) Invisible zipper at side.

Wear with:
-Flats or cowboy boots!
-Something pretty in your hair.
-A smile on your face.

Available in teal (shown), amethyst, spice, or black in XS-XL.”

Vanderhorst Street Dress – $275

“This dress is an alternate version of the PR dress in black with cleaner lines. It reminds me of the ironwork on Vanderhorst Street, where I used to live!

Wear with:
-architectural jewelry
-chunky shoes
-a nude glossy lip

98% cotton, 2% lycra, brushed cotton stretch sateen with a beautiful finish. Invisible zipper at center back and kick pleat at back. Fully boned inner bustier to waist.”

I came across this great offer on British Beauty Blogger: you buy any Estee Lauder fragrance and then you can buy their professional make-up collection for only £49 (worth more than £300). On the actual Estee Lauder site though, it was completely sold out and has in fact disappeared now from the page. Yesterday I was lucky enough to stumble on it at Selfridges and I got it straightaway! Yay!

Estee-Lauder-Makeup-Kit

The makeup collection includes 4 lipsticks, an eyeshadow compact with 15 colours, a face compact with 2 blushes and a bronzer, 3 eye pencils, eye makeup remover, 4 makeup brushes, a golden stand mirror, a traveler case and a makeup case. For only £49, that’s a pretty good deal. I’m completely in love with one of the lipsticks, and the eyeshadows and eye pencils are a great addition to my growing makeup collection. Keep in mind, one makeup brush alone costs at least £15, so buying the set for those brushes alone make already sense.

They still had quite a couple in stock at Selfridges and I also saw some at one of the other Oxford street department stores (I went to all of them, so I’m not sure which ones still had it).

Here are a couple photos I took of some of the stuff (room is a bit dark, so photos are more bluish than in reality, left out mirror and golden pouch thingy):

Estee Lauder Eyeshadow Compact

Deluxe Eyeshadow Compact with 15 coordinating shades (Sugar Cube, Ivory Box, Honey Drop, Lavender, Chocolate, Tea Biscuit, Copper Penny, Petal, Mulberry, Pale Moon, Cinnamon, Apricot and Mocha Cup in Pure Color EyeShadow, plus Sage Duo in Estée Lauder Signature Eyeshadow)

Estee Lauder Lipsticks

4 Pure Color Long Lasting Lipsticks (full-size, in Tiger Eye, Candy, Rose Tea, Fig). I’m loving the Fig!

Estee Lauder Face Compact

Deluxe Face Compact (Estée Lauder Signature Silky Powder Blush in Rosewood and Nude Rose, and Bronze Goddess Soft Matte Bronzer)

Estee Lauder Eye stuff

3 Artist’s Eye Pencils (great for smoky eyes, in SoftSmudge Black, SoftSmudge Brown and Slate Writer), Projectionist High Definition Volume Mascara (10-day supply, in Black), Lash Primer Plus (10-day supply), Gentle Eye Makeup Remover (full-size 3.4 oz.)

Estee Lauder Brushes

4 Deluxe Makeup Brushes (Powder, Blush, Eye and Lip)

Estee Lauder Case

Cosmetic Traveler Case

Fashion Focus: Red Ponte Dress

November 30th, 2009

Last Friday I came across this pretty red dress at Dorothy Perkins. I’ve never actually shopped much at Dorothy Perkins before, but I saw this dress in the window and knew I just had to try it on. Of course: they didn’t have my size. They had the same dress though in cream and grey, and I managed to try a cream one in my size on. Pwetty! But I wanted it in red.

Red-Ponte-Dress

On Saturday I was staying cozy inside with my pyjamas on, while Cristiano went out in the rain to do some shopping. An hour I get a phone call that he’s found my red dress in my size and whether or not he should get it for me? Yes, yes, yes (I have the sweetest boyfriend).

The dress fits great and I’m even thinking of getting the cream one too. The belt isn’t the prettiest, but that’s easily fixed (although I don’t own that many belts, so will have to do some shopping for that). Btw, I (and a lot of other people on Google) had no idea what a ‘Ponte Dress’ is. I finally figured it out: it’s a certain way fabric is knitted that makes it firm yet a little stretchy.

The Red Belted Ponte Dress is available at Dorothy Perkins for £32.

I’ve fallen for these three dresses from Karen Millen, even though my budget won’t allow me to get them (although maybe in the sale…?).

The first one is a simple black wool dress, which I think would look great with the right pair of boots (£135):

The second is wet look jersey dress with an asymmetric neckline and some zipper detail on the front (£135):

The third one is a brown satin dress with fake leather detail at the waist. I love the neckline and sleeves (£165):

I used to have this gigantic silver purple jewelry box which was perfect to store all the pretties I owned (looking back now though it’s kind of kitschy). It was too heavy though to take with me when moving to London (and also not that practical), so since then I’ve been looking for a suitable replacement.

I stumbled on these beautiful boxes on design store Umbra:

Turvy Storage Box: Pine storage box that pivots from the center. 9 x 3.5 x 4.5″ (23 x 9 x 11 cm). £33.00

Umbra-Turvy

Tuck Storage Box: Bamboo boxes that swivel together to create a cube for easy storage. 5 x 5 x 5″ (13 x 13 x 13 cm). £30.50

Umbra-Tuck

Terrace Storage Box: Set of three stacking bamboo boxes for jewelry. 5″ diameter x 4″. £30.50

Umbra-Terrace

Spindle Storage Box: Pivoting storage box with magnetic closure. 7.5 x 4.5 x 4.5″. £30.50

Umbra-Spindle

A couple of months ago I came across this cute jewelry brand via The Style PA. It’s called Fairytales & Post it Notes and everything about it is just so cute! The name, the designs, the site, I love it all.

Here are a couple of my favourite products:

Letter in Envelope Necklace: Envelope necklace with its own “I love you” letter inside. Also has its own little birdie on the side. £15

Fairytales And Postit Notes - Letter In Envelope

Telescope Necklace: Fully working extendable telescope necklace for you to keep a close eye on all those important things. £25

Fairytales And Postit Notes - Telescope

Pocket Compass Necklace: Antique style pocket watch style compass – so you’ll never loose your way. Fully working push button mechanism. £28

Fairytales And Postit Notes - Pocket Compass

Sandtimer Necklace: Sandtimer necklace for those all important deadlines. £16

Fairytales And Postit Notes - Sandtimer

Bird & Cage Earrings: £6.50

Fairytales And Postit Notes - Bird and Cage

I’m adoring some of these dresses from Lipsy! I’m thinking of maybe getting one of them, but I can’t decide. I know I’ll have to go and actually try them on first before making any decisions, but which of them do you like best?

Left: Bow Sleeve Tea Dress for £25.00, Right: Belted Cocoon Dress for £25.00

Left: Asymmetric Zip Shift Dress for £55, Right: Fluted Sleeve Jersey Dress for £25.00

My preference at the moment is for the top left Bow Sleeve Tea Dress, but I’m not too sure whether it might look too cutesy. My second favourite is the Zip dress, but the higher price tag (£55 instead £25) might sway me from getting it.
