Me Wantz: Tiffany Keys

July 24th, 2009

Because of LittleMissLala’s tweet a couple days ago about Tiffany’s, I wandered onto the Tiffany’s website. Oooh, shiny stuff!

I love these key shaped pendants:

My favourites are the more simple designs, but even these are pretty pricy (from left to right: £745, £135, £135, £155):

Check out the Tiffany website for more designs.

I’m adoring these Giuseppe Zanotti zip-fastening ankle boots:

Turns out though they’re £690. Eek!

I’ve been lately addicted to trying out new lipsticks, lip glosses and lip balms, and I thought I’d share my experiences with a couple of them. I’ve got quite dark pink lips, so a lot of shades won’t work for me, with my natural lip colour shining through.

Bourjois has quite a large range of lip glosses, all under the name “Effet 3D”. There’s the standard Effet 3D, the Effet 3D Cosmic, and the Effet 3D Max. Basically I think they’re all the same, with the Cosmic being more glitterier and sparklier, and the Max being shinier.

bourjois-effet-3d

I tried out the standard Effet 3D and went with a nice dark red shade called Rouge Classic. The colour is great and gives the proper type of cover for my lips. The gloss is a little bit on the gooey side, and is slightly too sticky: strands of my hair keep getting stuck in it, which is a bit of an annoyance. It does however have the right amount of shininess in it. The application brush is a bit simple, and I found it difficult to apply the upper lip curves properly.

I always hate it when lip glosses smell and taste “chemical”, but the Effet 3D doesn’t suffer from either of those problems. It has a candy like smell, and a similar taste. Like other lip glosses, the longevity of this one isn’t that great, and you do have to re-apply it often during the day.

I really liked this lip gloss, and I think I’ll be wearing it often in the future. Colour-wise I think I went with exactly the perfect colour for my lips, although I would love to try out some of the other ones too.

Threadless Threadcakes

July 7th, 2009

There’s a cool contest going on, run by Chris Cardinal and Threadless.com. The idea is to turn one of the Threadless T-shirt designs into a cake! To check out all the rules etc head on over to Threadcakes.com.

Here are a couple of amazing cakes some people have created:

Compare with the original design of “I Wish I Were”

Compare with the original design “The Apple”

Compare with the original design “Long Journey”

Compare with the original design “Catburger”

Compare with the original design “She Doesn’t Even Realize”

Compare with the original design “Capistrano Spring Break”

Compare with the original design “Camouflage”

There are loads more in the Threadcakes Gallery, but these were the best ones so far (in my humble opinion). The contest is open till August 3rd, so expect some more amazing cakes in the following weeks.

Last year I blogged about the Disney Fairy Tale Wedding Dresses; some of them I loved, but others were just plain hideous. I’m not sure when these newest dresses were released, but I’d thought share the latest additions to the line.

Now one thing I just don’t understand is the ugly backdrop of all the photos. Unlike the previous batch, the quality of these photos just aren’t up to scratch, and the colourful backdrop really doesn’t help showing off the dresses. I still think some of these dresses don’t have anything remotely “princessy” or “fairy tale” about them, and certainly don’t have anything to do with the characters they were inspired by.

Cinderella

Once Upon A Time…

Not so long ago, one girl dreamed of going to the ball and finding her prince. This famous fairy tale begins with a single wish, an exquisite dress and the dream of a lifetime.

Today, the timeless Cinderella tale comes alive with classic glamour. Silk tulle and duchess satin make these gowns fit for a true princess. Stunning touches of scattered crystal and silver threading sparkle and shine like the midnight sky.

Sleeping Beauty

With a single kiss, Sleeping Beauty’s dream comes true. She finds her prince, falls in love and discovers that she’s already a real princess.

Here, this classic tale is retold in regal fabrics of satin, chantilly and netting. The theme of pretty romance rings true with beautiful touches of crystal and pearl embellishments — perfect for any princess.

Luminous, radiant, graceful, harmonious

Snow White

The Fairest Of Them All…

The first to show us that true love lasts forever, Snow White finds her prince and claims her kingdom.

This collection captures her gentle grace and beauty in exquisite silk, chiffon and satin. Beads, pearls and lovely appliqués tell the story of sweet elegance and enduring love as this fairy tale comes true.

Jasmine

Follow Your Heart…

A new world awaits Jasmine as she follows her heart and finds true love. Here, fairy tale wishes take flight and happily ever after becomes the greatest adventure.

This enchanting collection reflects Jasmine’s bohemian spirit. Gowns drape in chiffon and satin. Exotic details include clustered beadwork, appliqué lace and just a touch of wanderlust.

Ariel

Love Changes Everything…

…As Ariel soon finds when she places her heart above all else. Willing to cross oceans for true love, Ariel discovers the world beyond the sea all that she dreamed it to be.

This romantic collection pays tribute to Ariel’s oceanic home with touches of pearl beading and underwater imagery.

Silk cascades and drapes for a sultry look that transcends time and two different worlds.

Belle

The Heart, Like a Rose, Blossoms When Loved…

Open and true, Belle sees beyond the surface, making all that she casts her gaze upon beautiful. Guided by her heart, Belle finds her prince, breaks a spell and claims her destiny.

This story continues in stylish sophistication with ribbon and bands of satin. Here, taffeta and tulle blooms pay tribute to Belle’s gracious spirit. With elegant details like scattered beading and lovely lace, this fairy tale lives on.

I think my favourites are the second Cinderella dress, the second Sleeping Beauty one, and the first and the third Jasmine dresses. I really don’t like the Ariel and Belle dresses, while I just loved those lines in the previous collections (the Ariel Collection 2 and the Belle Collection 1).

Check out all the dresses at the Disney Fairy Tale Weddings website.

How To Get Cheap Glasses

June 23rd, 2009

During my trip to the Netherlands last month, I finally visited the optician again to get my eyes checked for the first time in two (maybe even three) years. It was a bit of a surprise how much worse both my eyes had gotten; I’ve now got -4.00 in my right eye and -4.50 in my left (with a cylinder of -1.75 in both).

I got a complete new set of contact lenses, but didn’t really want to shell out +£50 for a new pair of glasses. I mean, 90% of the time I’m wearing my contacts anyway, but I do need a set to wear during the evening. Wearing contacts the entire day and staring at a computer screen, means (with me at least) that by the end of the day my eyes are dried out and I need to take my lenses out.

I kind of gave up on getting a new pair of glasses and thought I’d had to live with using a set with the wrong strength. But then I stumbled on an offer from SelectSpecs. For only £5 you could get a set of full rimmed glasses: frame, lenses with UV Protection, Anti-Reflection, and Scratch Resistant Coatings, add to that £3.50 for shipping, and for £8.50 you’re done.

I ordered the following pair (the Jacranda design) this morning:

cheap-glasses

Of course, the downside is that I wasn’t able to try them on and see how they fit, but for only £8.50? It’s a much better solution than keeping on using my current glasses with the wrong prescription, or buying an expensive pair which I won’t use that often. I’ll let you know how the quality of the glasses are once they’ve arrived, but they seem pretty okay.

I’m not sure how long this offer from SelectSpecs is going for, but even then their normal glasses are pretty cheap compared to other places. Check out their website for more details.

I’m starting a new set of recurring blog posts: Fashion Focus, where I’ll write about the cute dresses/shoes/makeup/hairstyles that I come across. I’ve been meaning to do this for some time, but (again) never got around to it.

To start things off, here’s a product I adore: Lush’s Honey Trap Lip Balm. It contains honey, white chocolate and shea butter to give you smooth and deliciously yummy lips. It’s by far the best lip balm I’ve ever used and it smells gorgeous.

honey_trap_lip_balm

I’ve also tried the other two lip balms (Lip Service and Whipstick) mentioned on the Lush site, but they didn’t suit me as well as Honey Trap. Lip Service is specially for dry, rough lips and it really moisturizes a lot. The main ingredients are cocoa butter, shea butter, and tangerine oil. Whipstick is for those people who are allergic to cocoa butter and lanolin, and smells like chocolate orange. I’m guessing I’m not that much of a fan of these two, because of the orangey/tangerine smell they have. If you don’t mind that though, I suggest trying them out, cause (smells aside) they’re great lip balms.

There were also two other balms, but I can’t find them on the UK site (they are still available on the US site though and I saw them last week in one of the actual store). Lip Squeak smells like apple pie, and contains apples, vanilla, lemon and poppy seed oil. Lite Lip is a lighter type of lip balm which contains marshmellow herb, rose and cocoa butter.

Each of the lip balms cost £4.40 ($8.75), a bit pricier than your standard Nivea/Labello lip balm, but completely worth it. If you want to try them out, just go to one of the Lush stores; the store clerks are always helpful and ready to let you try out stuff (if you’re not too sure about a product, just ask for a sample to take home; they’re really great with that).

Lush Lip Balms – UK Store, US Store

I love love love these jewelry designs from Molly M Designs. They are just so simple and elegant, but with a mathematical twist.

lasercut_wood_rings

The story behind the store is pretty interesting too. Molly McGrath is professionally trained as an architect and after using a laser cutter to make architectural models, she realized the machine potential to make unique jewelry. Each design starts out with a sketch, which are then drafted into AutoCAD and printed on the laser cutter.

lasercut_intersect

From what I can see on the site, every design is available as earrings or as a pendant. Depending on the design, they are available as small or large. Here are the prices: small earrings are $36, large earrings are $46, small pendants are $36 and large pendants are $46.

Tuesday evening I managed to go to another London Bloggers Meetup. This time the event was sponsored by Fashion Targets Breast Cancer (FTBC), a campaign to raise funds for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. They gave a short, but interesting talk on what FTBC is and how you can help.

london_bloggers_meetup_ftbc-logo

FTBC was setup in 1994 by Ralph Lauren as the fashion industry’s response to breast cancer, raising money through high-street items. The new FTBC range features designs from Topshop, River Island, Marks & Spencers, Warehouse, Coast, Laura Ashley and Goodone. From each purchase from the FTBC range, 30% is donated to Breakthrough Breast Cancer to help the charity with its research, campaigning and education work.

london_bloggers_meetup_mmc_logo

The latest campaign from FTBC is the Million Model Catwalk, an interactive website with a competition. The idea of Million Model Catwalk is that you can upload a photo of yourself, stick it on a model’s body, choose clothes for your model to wear from the FTBC range and see your model walk down the catwalk.

After the talk there was a giveaway of a couple of FTBC T-shirts and I won one of them. Yay! Here’s how it looks like:

london_bloggers_meetup_tshirt

I really do like this top and I actually wore it for the remainder of the evening. The rest of the event I spent talking to and catching up with (mostly) familiar faces and some new ones. As always, this London Bloggers meetup was a lot of fun and I’m already looking forward to the next one!

I’ve only recently begun wearing knee-high and thigh-high socks, but I’ve gotten completely addicted to getting these socks in all different colours and patterns. Now this recent etsy find though has got to be the cutest I’ve come across!

Tattoo socks! How cute are these? There are a couple of different designs available (check out the esty store for the others), I featured my favourites here.

KAminiature

(Yay! You found the hidden treasure! Leave a comment behind with “your hidden gem of London”)

The socks are available in 4 different body colour shades (ultra pale, light mocha, deep mocha, cafe latte) and white. The design is printed in black on one sock; you get one printed sock and a blank sock to create an asymmetrical look.

There are two sizes/lengths for sale: knee-high socks for $13 and thigh-high socks for $18. Shipping is only $2.80 per order.
