My Thoughts on The 2007 Emmy Nominations

Yesterday the Emmy nominations were announced and I couldn’t be a called bona fide TV geek if I didn’t have my own favorites. I’ll only be discussing the categories that I’m interested in; the rest of the nominations you can find here.

Outstanding Comedy Series
30 Rock
Entourage
The Office
Two And A Half Men
Ugly Betty
I still don’t understand why How I Met Your Mother hasn’t been nominated. That definitely was the funniest serie from last season. To be honest, I’ve never watched Entourage or The Office (not the US version at least), so I can’t say if either of them is any good (or bad). From the remaining three series I find Ugly Betty deserves to win; it’s the only serie from the three that has me laughing out loud. Plus it had the best final episode of all series this season with it’s crescendo of cliffhangers.

The Sopranos
Finally! This year 24 is not nominated, killing it’s chances to win an undeserved Emmy (as opposed to last year). I don’t watch Boston Legal (isn’t that more comedy?) or The Sopranos, and it’s difficult to choose between the remaining three great series. I’d have to go for Heroes, because of it’s freshness and because this season of Grey’s Anatomy and House just didn’t feel as great as their previous seasons. Oh, and because Heroes is like super cool!

Extras • Ricky Gervais as Andy Millman
Monk • Tony Shalhoub as Adrian Monk
The Office • Steve Carell as Michael Scott
Two And A Half Men • Charlie Sheen as Charlie Harper
My vote has to go here to Ricky Gervais. I just love his Andy Millman; how can someone say the exact wrong thing at the wrong time so many times?

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series
24 • Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer
Boston Legal • James Spader as Alan Shore
House • Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory House
Rescue Me • Denis Leary as Tommy Gavin
The Sopranos • James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano
I really have to go for Hugh Laurie here. His portrayal of House makes you want to love the guy you should want to hate.

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series
30 Rock • Tina Fey as Liz Lemon
Desperate Housewives • Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo
The New Adventures Of Old Christine • Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Christine Campbell
Ugly Betty • America Ferrera as Betty Suarez
Weeds • Mary-Louise Parker as Nancy Botwin
I’m going with America Ferrera for this one. Her Betty Suarez is so sweet and geeky; she reminds me that even though I’m a geek, there can be people out there who have less fashion sense than I do :D.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit • Mariska Hargitay as Detective Olivia Benson
Medium • Patricia Arquette as Allison Dubois
The Closer • Kyra Sedgwick as Dep. Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson
The Riches • Minnie Driver as Dahlia Malloy
The Sopranos • Edie Falco as Carmela Soprano
I have to skip this one, cause I don’t watch any of these series.

Yes! A How I Met Your Mother nomination! Barney has had some of the best oneliners this year.

Grey’s Anatomy • T.R. Knight as George
Heroes • Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura
Lost • Terry O’Quinn as John Locke
Lost • Michael Emerson as Ben
The Sopranos • Michael Imperioli as Christopher Moltisanti
Definitely going for Masi Oka! Did you know he was a special effects artist at ILM? He’s the one who does the water.

Two And A Half Men • Conchata Ferrell as Berta
Two And A Half Men • Holland Taylor as Evelyn Harper
Ugly Betty • Vanessa Williams as Wilhelmina Slater
Weeds • Elizabeth Perkins as Celia Hodes
Ooh, I just love Wilhelmina Slater. Vanessa Williams is just perfect as the woman you love to hate.

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series
Brothers & Sisters • Rachel Griffiths as Sarah Whedon
Grey’s Anatomy • Sandra Oh as Cristina Yang
Grey’s Anatomy • Chandra Wilson as Dr. Bailey
Grey’s Anatomy • Katherine Heigl as Isobel (Izzie) Stevens
The Sopranos • Aida Turturro as Janice Soprano
The Sopranos • Lorraine Bracco as Dr. Jennifer Melfi
I’m not sure who to pick for this category. So many talented actresses, but not one that just pops out to me as the “best”. I’ll have to think about this one, I guess.
