Can’t wait till this airs! Series 7 will have 6 episodes airing in 2012 (including the Christmas special), and 8 episodes in 2013. Amy and Rory will appear in the first 5 episodes, while a new companion will be introduced in the Christmas special.

Based on the book of the same name, Life of Pi is about a young man who gets shipwrecked together with a Bengal tiger. I again haven’t read the book, but this trailer makes me want to read it! This looks like it could be good! It feels a lot like Nolan’s take on Batman but then for Superman… very curious to see how this turns out. I’m still not sure about Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent or Amy Adams as Lois Lane (as much as I love her, she’s not who I’d imagine for that role), but I love the rest of the casting (Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diana Lane as Martha Kent, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Laurence Fishburn as Perry White). It’s again a “from the producer of Alice In Wonderland” production, so that’s not filling me with much hope. However, that’s semi-counteracted by the fact that Sam Raimi is directing; I most of the time love what he does (although I have to admit there have been some misses too). I’m not the hugest fan of James Franco; he always seems to play the same character and somehow just gets on my nerves. Still, the rest of this movie looks beautiful and Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams and Mila Kunis as the three witches look great. I also love though how the trailer starts off in black-and-white! This trailer for the Russian sci-fi movie Branded came out last month, but I somehow missed it. It looks super weird though and I think it could be quite interesting. If I understand the trailer correctly, the idea behind it is that the world is full of invisible aliens or monsters that feed off someones brand devotion. Interesting concept and very curious to see how far they take it. Release Date: 7 September 2012 (US)
The idea behind this movie sounds interesting: following World War II a charismatic intellectual (Hoffman) launches a religious organization (described as being similar to Scientology). The trailer though just doesn’t do anything for me; it looks like it could be an amazing story, but it also feels like it could be quite tiring and slow. Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman both look great and I’m predicting at least one of them will get nominated for an Oscar. Release Date: 9 November 2012 (UK)

This all changes though when David Walling (Hugh Laurie) starts an affair with his friend’s daughter Nina (Leighton Meester), much to the dismay of his wife (Catherine Keener), daughter (Alia Shawkat), son (Adam Brody) and best friends (Oliver Plat and Allison Janney). Australian Easter Bunny! I love the idea of having childhood mythical creatures as a sort of team of superheroes, and it looks like it could be a lot of fun. Hugh Jackman as the Easter Bunny and Alec Baldwin as Santa Claus both sound awesome and hilarious. The only one I’m not too sure about is Jack Frost; Chris Pine is doing his voice and I have a feeling they should have gone with someone younger. Release Date: 21 November (US), 30 November (UK)
This is based on the popular book series of the same name by Lee Child. I hadn’t actually of the books before this trailer, and to be honest I’m not that excited for this movie. Yes, it’s got Tom Cruise in it, but frankly it doesn’t look like fun at all. Release Date: 21 December (US), 28 December (UK)
Wow, this looks awesome. It stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis playing the young and old versions of Joe, a time-travelling assassin. I love twisty intelligent sci-fi movies and I’m really hoping Looper fits that bill. Judging by the trailer alone, I think this could be great! Release Date: 28 September (UK, US)
I love the look of this! I mean I loved the old version with Arnie, but that one also at times felt quite cheesy (although I should give it a rewatch and see how I find it now). This new version with Colin Farrell looks a little bit more serious, but seems to be following the same plot. My only problem is with this trailer: I suggest don’t watch it. It again is one of those trailers that gives too much away. If you really want to watch it to get a feel for the movie, I’d say stop around the 1:10 mark. Release Date: 3 August (US), 29 August (UK)

It’s time for another Trailrrific Thursday! I know, I know, it’s not Thursday anymore, but my internet connectivity sucked yesterday and Trailerrific Friday just doesn’t have that same ring to it. I am really getting annoyed with some of the release dates for the UK though compared to the US! It’s mainly PIxar/Disney where the wait in between is so massive: 2 months for Brave and 4 months (seriously?!?) for Wreck-It Ralph.
Sidenote: I’m really loving Cineworld‘s Unlimited pass! For only £14.99 per month I get to go unlimited times to the cinema. I only saw Monsters Inc. last year, it’s again one of those movies that I missed seeing in the cinema (most probably cause that was my final year of high school and didn’t have the time for it) and then never got around to watching. I loved it though when I finally saw it, and this prequel looks great! There are actually 4 different teasers, but the only difference is the joke Mike makes while he’s dreaming. I spent most of yesterday evening watching the E3 media briefings; they’re always fun to watch and you always get to see all the new trailers. I thought I’d do a roundup of the cool stuff I’ve seen so far; there are some games that look awesome and I can’t wait till they’ll come out.
Assassin’s Creed
I loved the previous Assassin’s Creed games, but I hadn’t really found anything to be excited about in AC3. Setting it in the US during the revolution just doesn’t appeal to me at all (I was hoping for London or Paris). Seeing these trailers though reminds me that it definitely is an Assassin’s Creed game and that like the others I’ll most probably fall in love with it. Connor still doesn’t seem as crush worthy as Ezio was though.
Halo 4
I’ve only played Halo CE so far, but seeing this trailer makes me want to play the others!
Tomb Raider
The Tomb Raider games were some of the first games I truly was addicted to, so I’ve been curious to see how this reboot turns out. I like the look of it, but it doesn’t feel like Tomb Raider to me yet; so far it seems more like Uncharted, but with a female protagonist.
The Last of Us
I’m not sure yet about The Last of Us. The gameplay looks so smooth and fluent, but I’m wondering how much choice as a player you actually have (and how much is on rails). The world and the characters look interesting though, so I’ll most probably give this game a try.
Watch Dogs
This looks like it good be quite fun! It doesn’t seem like your normal type of gameplay, and I wonder how much freedom you get to hack into and mess around with stuff. Interestingly enough the QR code cube a waiter is wearing in the second video actually leads to this website…
BEYOND: Two Souls
Ooh, this looks good. I still haven’t played Heavy Rain, but it’s been on my To-Play list for a while.

Awesome trailer. It actually looks like London (unlike Mass Effect 3, which didn’t look even remotely like it). If it wasn’t on the Wii, I’d be really excited for this. As it is though, I can’t help but think that it won’t live up to the awesomeness of the trailer.
Splinter Cell: Blacklist
I haven’t played any of the previous Splinter Cells, even though Cristiano keeps urging me to play Splinter Cell: Conviction (apparently the co-op is a lot of fun). It could be fun, but it looks a little too realistic for my tastes.

Rayman Legends
If I was a kid, I would have loved this! I used to play Rayman with my brother and sister, but we would always have to take turns who could play. Being able to play this new game with up to 5 players is already cool, add to that your powers are determined by what type of controller you have and it’s pretty awesome!
Les Miserables is one of those musicals of which I know the words of its most famous songs, but have never actually seen in its entirety. I am really looking forward to it though; the cast looks amazing. Ever since the 2009 Oscars, I’ve wanted to see Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway do a musical together (on a sidenote: I found out that Hugh Jackman’s opening number that year, which I keep on watching over and over again, was actually written by Community’s Dan Harmon! Awesome!).
Anne Hathaway sounds great! It’s not the prettiest version I’ve heard, but I’ve always found that this song doesn’t necessarily have to be sung prettily; Hathaway brings the right type of distress and sadness into it. I can’t wait to see the final cut of this!
Another song I’m really looking forward to is On My Own. They wisely cast Samantha Barks in the role, and she can definitely sing this song:
Ooh, it’s that time of the year when the current TV shows are ending and the new Fall shows are being announced. There have been some awesome season finales this year, but I’ll write more about that in a later post (once all the shows I’m watching has ended). Most of the picked-up pilots haven’t released anything yet, but NBC is this year ahead of the curve with some actual trailers. From the 6 trailers they released, only Revolution looked interesting to me:
I’m not completely convinced by the trailer yet though; I think it has a lot of potential, but visually it looks a bit too much like a crappy B-movie. The story though looks like it could be interesting, although it does have a bit of a Lost vibe going on that so many shows have been trying to recreate. Despite that though Revolution is definitely going on my To Watch list for this Fall; we need more post-apocalyptic sci-fi on TV!

I loved the first season of Game of Thrones, so obviously I’m excited for season 2! I finished the fifth book just before Christmas, and I’m so curious to how this series will end. It’s weird though that I’ll have to wait at least 4 years (most probably more) to see those words translated to the small screen. Assuming, that is, it won’t be cancelled at a certain moment.
The new trailer got released this weekend, and it’s looking great! There are a couple of casting choices that I’m not too sure about, but this trailer doesn’t really show those yet:
I didn’t understand all the hype when it first was announced that this book series would be turned into a movie, and then I picked up the first book… I devoured it within a day. It’s one of those books that you can not put down. The premise is pretty much Battle Royale meets Big Brother.
I’m still not sure if a movie adaption is going to work though. What I loved about the book was that you get to see Katniss’ thoughts about every decision she makes. She knows she’s being constantly watched and it’s the internal conflict about whether or not to manipulate people that was the most interesting to me. I have no idea how and even if that is going to come across on the screen.
So now that a first trailer has come out, what do we think of it?
Some of the actors I think they’ve cast spot on (Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson). Others I’m not too sure about. Lenny Kravitz as Cinna looks great, even though I always pictured Cinna as Cillian Murphy. And Josh Hutcherson as Peeta… I’m still not convinced.
They’re staying very true to the book, but I’m not too sure that’s a good thing. The characters from the Capital are a bit over-the-top (pink hair, curled moustaches, etc) and seem a bit too comical for me. I was hoping they would tone that part a bit down, but it looks like they’re sticking to exactly what is in the book.
I’m curious to see how the movie goes; it’s definitely something I’ll be watching in the cinema. I still have that nagging feeling though that this shouldn’t have be turned into a movie. What do you think? Have you read the books? Do you like the trailer?
