It’s been ages since I last did a Trailerrific Thursday; I’m quite shocked to see the last proper one was in May 2010. Wow. I’ll be trying to do these at least twice a month, hopefully every week.

The Avengers: This looks great! I loved Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, so of course I would be excited for this. I’m still not sure about Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, but the rest of the cast looks great! Release Date: May 2012

The Divide: A post-apocalyptic thriller about 9 strangers (all tenants of a New York apartment) hiding together in the building’s basement after a nuclear attack. I really like the look of this movie, but I think the trailer might give too much away. My tip: stop watching the trailer at about 1:10, when “One of the best apocalyptic tales in quite a while” appears. Release Date: January 2012

Happy Feet Two: Ehm, yeah… I wasn’t much of a fan of the first Happy Feet. I liked it, but didn’t love it as a lot of people seemed to at the time. The sequel? More of the same it seems. Release Date: Novemburr 2011

Act of Valor: “When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the U.S., a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt.” Not really my type of movie, but looks interesting. Release Date: February 2012

Carnage: Two pairs of parents, whose kids got into a fight, meet to discuss the matter, starring Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz and John C Reilly. This could be good, but for now it just looks tiring. Release Date: December 2011

Sleeping Beauty: Lucy is a Sleeping Beauty, a prostitute who sleeps (is drugged) while men do to her whatever they want, with her not remembering anything of what happened. Release Date: October 2011

The Adventures of Tintin: I never read Tintin growing up, but this looks like it could be fun. Release Date: October 2011

The Raven: A string of gruesome murders seem to be inspired by Edgar Allen Poe’s work. Poe (John Cusack) joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans) to solve the murders. Release Date: March 2012

Can’t. Wait.

Trailerrific: Dead Island

February 17th, 2011

This is just… hmm, “beautiful” somehow seems the wrong word, but I’m not really sure how else to describe it. It’s a trailer for the zombie game Dead Island, and while it’s got the creepy and gruesome zombie vibe going on, there’s also this visceral aspect to it that makes it all rather emotional and stunning:

See what I mean?

Okay, this just looks awesome:

I wasn’t really looking forward to this movie, until it’s was announced that it’s being directed by Matthew Vaughn. I love Kick-Ass and Stardust, so it’s going to be interesting to see how this X-Men turns out!

It’s 1am and I’m supposed to get up early to see a screening of Paul tomorrow morning, but I couldn’t resist watching the Superbowl this year. This is the first time I’m watching with friends (and actually have a clue what is happening). Being in the UK though, I can’t actually see all the ads and trailers live, but nowadays they’re pretty quickly available online. So here’s my roundup of the must-watch trailers of the Superbowl:

Super 8

Still very mysterious, but I love the vibe of this trailer (mainly cause of the music, I think). Kyle Chandler will always be Gary Hobson for me though (any other old Early Edition fans here?)

Captain America

I was a little underwhelmed when I saw this the first time. Re-watching it though makes me like it a bit more. Is it weird that I was expecting more action shots? I like the before and after shots of Chris Evens though.

Transformers

As much as I hate the plot of the Transformers movies, I do love the action. Giant robots fighting! What’s not to love? And installment #3 seems to have more action, more robots and more explosions. Fire bad, robot pretty.

Thor

Not much we hadn’t seen before. I still think it looks a little bit cheesy. But you know I love mythology and superheros, so whatever happens I’m going to see this.

Cowboys & Aliens

Ooh! We already had seen a trailer, but this spot shows a little bit more. Did you see that alien ship “unfold”?!

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

I still like the idea of this movie. My main problem with 2 and 3 were Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom, and they’ been finally cut out of this movie. Instead we get Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane as Blackbeard (AWESOME).

Trailerrific: Hanna

February 4th, 2011

Okay, this just looks awesome:

I love how this doesn’t look like your typical action movie. And we need more kick ass heroines in movies!

Trailerrific: Mass Effect 3

January 6th, 2011

One good thing that came from being sick the past 3 weeks was that I finally was able to finish Mass Effect, jump right into Mass Effect 2 and complete that too. I’m now so looking forward to the next and final part!

I’ll do a full review some time soon, but Mass Effect is a great game for sci-fi fans. I realized that for me it really fills the void left by sfi-fi tv shows. It’s like a mix of Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek, with it’s own epic world of space exploration and aliens. I know I’m way behind on this (Mass Effect 1 came out in 2007), but it’s a brilliant game and a good place to start if till so far you’re a non-gamer.

And finally here’s the trailer for the 3rd part:

Trailerrific: Source Code

November 22nd, 2010

You all should know by now how much I loved Duncan Jones’ Moon (if you still haven’t seen it, why the hell not?), so it should come as no surprise that I’d be interested in his next movie. Well, we now finally get a trailer:

Right. So army guy wakes up in a secret base and is forced to relive the same event over again to try and stop a future terrorist attack. Any theories so far?

Trailerrific: Game of Thrones

September 13th, 2010

I’m still in the process of reading the latest book of A Song of Ice and Fire, but it already is one of my favourite fantasy series. It’s one of the most intricate fantasy stories out there, and I’m so psyched that HBO is turning it into a TV show. There’s already been one earlier teaser trailer, which barely showed anything, but this new trailer show a bit more:

And there’s a Behind the Scenes featurette which shows even more:

I love the look of the show! Some of the characters seem perfectly cast, although until I’ve actually seen some proper scenes I won’t be able to judge it completely.

I’ve already posted a couple of trailers for this movie, but I can’t wait to see it! It’s already out in the US, but we’ll have to wait one more week for it. The trailer does show a lot, so if you’ve already decided to see this movie, I’d avoid watching it.
