TeeFury has another TwoFury Battle today and this time both designs are Miyazaki based! The first one is from Kiki’s Delivery Service and the second one is from My Neighbour Totoro.

I loved Kiki’s Delivery Service (more than My Neighbour Totoro I have to admit) so obviously that tee is my favourite:

Both designs are available for the next 19 hours for just $11! Which one is your favourite?

Me Wantz: <3 Ring

May 27th, 2014

I’m not sure if I might have blogged about this ring before, but it’s so cute!

me wantz heart ring

I’ve just ordered it from Etsy seller DoubleBJewelry (who also made my awesome Space Invader earrings) and I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Last Saturday I got invited to visit the Beyond El Dorado: power and gold in ancient Colombia exhibition at the British Museum. I’ve always been intrigued by ancient cultures and myths, so obviously I was up for finding out more the legends behind El Dorado. I have to admit, I didn’t really know much about that area beforehand, and had kind of assumed it was related to the Inca empire (which it actually isn’t).

Anthropomorphic-pectoral

The exhibition features over 300 objects from the collections in the British Museum and Museo del Oreo (literally the “Gold Museum”, located in Bogota, Columbia), showing the technologically advanced gold working craftsmanship of the different cultures of ancient Colombia. It was really interesting discovering more about the creation and the meaning of all those objects. Plus some of the gold metalworking is exquisite! So much detail and precision in such tiny objects; it’s gorgeous to see.

There are still tickets available if you want to see the exhibition yourself, but hurry! This Sunday is the final day of the exhibition.

Disclaimer: tickets to the Beyond El Dorado: power and gold in ancient Colombia were provided by American Airlines.

I still haven’t gotten around to blogging properly about my trip to Florida. I keep meaning to sort out and edit all my photos before writing about it, but we’re now 1.5 months further and I still haven’t done it. Ugh. Bad blogger.

One of the highlights of the trip for me was seeing an actual rocket launch. A. Freaking. Rocket. Launch. Specifically this one:

I followed the advice of our tour guide earlier that day to not attempt to take any photos or videos and just watch the entire thing with your own eyes. I’m glad I did. There’s a ton of footage out there anyway from others and experiencing something like that yourself instead of through the lens of a gadget did make it more special.

We were really lucky though. The rocket (Atlas V) was carrying a Tracking and Data Relay Satellite-L (TDRS-L) which only had a 40 minute window to launch in. A few minutes before the launch they discovered problems with the telemetry dropping out and the launch had to be delayed. They finally managed to launch with a few minutes to spare, but we know how lucky we were that it didn’t get postponed to the next day!

30 Things: Part One

February 24th, 2014

I turned 30 yesterday! I had a great day; lunch and boozy milkshakes at the Diner, shopping for books and dresses with my brother and sister, and a fun dinner with friends. We also ended the day on Trafalgar Square climbing the steps of Nelson’s column, waiting for the Big Ben to chime (which we then completely missed). I love living in London.

Two months ago I got this brilliant idea to do a 30 Things Before 30 list; 8 weeks is plenty of time to tick off everything on that list, right? Turns out it really wasn’t, especially not when you’re moving to a new flat and going 2 weeks on holiday. Obviously I failed miserably, but thought I’d give it another shot: a 30 Things While 30 list!

I’m also splitting it up into 3 parts in the hopes that it becomes a bit more manageable. So: 10 things I need to do in the next 4 months. All of these are easily doable and they’re all things I’ve planning to do the past 2 years, but never got around to:

  1. Visit Seckington
  2. Play Hint Hunt
  3. See Les Mis
  4. Read The Prestige
  5. Make my own ramen
  6. Finish an online course
  7. Go to a spa
  8. Build something with Arduino
  9. Run 10k
  10. Visit an overseas city I’ve never been before

Doesn’t sound too tricky, right? Let’s see if this time around I actually find the time to do these things!

I still haven’t finished the Wheel of Time series (and I’m at the point where I’m seriously wondering if I ever will), but it is one of the first fantasy series that I started reading. This necklace featuring the Wheel and the Great Serpent is awesome:

The necklace is available on ThinkGeek in bronze for $24.99 and in silver for $61.99.

Dinosaur, you used to be here, but you’re not anymore…

I love the propaganda look of these Avengers posters. I’ve been meaning to get the Serenity travel posters for ages, but I think these could fit quite well with those!

You can get the entire set on ThinkGeek for only $34.99.
