It’s the final day of the Olympics! I started these Olympics posts two weeks ago with a Dress of The Day post, so I thought it would be fitting to do a final one on the day of the closing ceremony.

One of the best moments of the Olympics was watching Jessica Ennis win the 800m in the Heptathlon even though she didn’t need to. It was a brilliant moment and made me proud of my adopted country. During a Q&A session at the Omega House last week (wait, Omega have their own “national” house?!? *Goes to google* After some googling: it’s a special Olympics private members club in Soho) Ennis wore a cute pink Alexander McQueen skater dress:

If you want the dress yourself, I found it on Farfetch.com for £562.50:

I love that during some of the closeups of Olympic athletes you can see their awesome nail art! I’d love to be creative and do pretty stuff on my nails, but I really do not have the talent (or stable hands) for that.

One of my favourite nail blogs has shared a couple of tutorials to how you can create those flags yourself, so I’m quite tempted to try it out (even though I’m 90% sure I’ll fail completely).

The Australian Flag:

Olympic Rings

The British Flag for all my UK readers:

The American Flag for all my US readers:

The German Flag for my German readers and readers from countries with a 3 banded flag, like the Dutch (I’m pretty sure you could just apply the same tutorial there):

Olympics: Flag Necklaces

August 4th, 2012

I’m feeling quite patriotic with all the Olympic stuff going on, so I thought it’d be cool to see what type of jewellery might be out there to show off your country. I came across etsy store Austin Creations that among other things makes bronze pendants with the flag of the country of your choice!

Here are the ones for Australia and the Netherlands:

They have a ton of other countries on their etsy page, but I’m pretty sure if yours isn’t among it, you can just email and ask if they can do yours. Each necklace only costs $14.50 (about £9.30 and €11.70) and delivery is $3.50.

The Olympics officially start tonight! I’m loving the vibe in London at the moment; I was on the Southbank a couple of days ago and the atmosphere was amazing.

So instead of doing a regular Dress of The Day post, I thought I’d do an Olympic inspired one! Five gorgeous dresses, each with the colour of one of the Olympic rings. The black one is my favourite; I can so see myself wearing that one.

Kettle Corn

I love this Enterprise Blueprint skirt from etsy store Go Chase Rabbits! It’s so geeky, but also has quite a flattering shape.

The store has also a ton of other awesome skirts! These are my favourites:

The skirts cost all between $40 and $55 and can be shipped to anywhere in the world.

I came across these pumps on Pinterest and they’re just so pretty! I love the mixed chains that act as the strap, it almost looks like you’re wearing ankle jewellery.

Sadly enough, from what I’ve googled they’re not being sold anywhere anymore. On the Bebe site I came across the black version of these pumps, but even those aren’t in stock anymore:

I’ll need to keep an eye out for something similar to these, they’re so adorable!

One of the other sessions I held at BarCamp Berkshire last weekend was “Intro to Cooking”. This quickly turned more into a “share your cool recipes and kitchen tips”, and I learnt some great things! One of the recipes I talked about was Spaghetti Tequila which I made last week after experimenting with some ingredients.

Spaghetti Tequila

Ingredients

  • 2-3 avocados
  • 400 gr cherry tomatoes
  • 300 gr chicken or turkey
  • 150 ml creme fraiche
  • 1-2 shots of tequila
  • garlic
  • 1 tea spoon coriander
  • 1 table spoon lemon juice
  • cayenne pepper
  • 200-250 gr pasta (spaghetti, penne, whatever you want)

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta as you normally would.
  2. Cut the avocados in squares (if you don’t know how to peel and de-pit an avocado, google it), the cherry tomatoes in halves, and the chicken/turkey in biteable bits.
  3. Mix the avocado with the lime juice, coriander and cayenne pepper. Add as much cayenne pepper as you’re comfortable with. If you don’t want it spicy at all, leave the cayenne out.
  4. Melt butter in a pan. Add the garlic; once it’s browned, add the chicken.
  5. Once the chicken is done (== no pinkish, raw bits), throw in the cherry tomatos and avocado mixture.
  6. After a minute or so, once the pan is sizzling again, add the tequila. If you’re not quite sure how much tequila you want, slowly add this in bits, until it tastes as you want.
  7. Let it simmer for about 2 minutes, then add the creme fraiche. Let it then simmer for about 3 minutes.
  8. Add the pasta and… TADA: Spaghetti Tequila!

Staying in the realm of dresses I’ll never get to wear, today’s Dress of the Day is this gorgeous black lace dress from Ellie Saab:

After the last boob Dress of The Day, I thought we needed something double as awesome than normal to make up for the previous one’s horribleness. I’m sort of cheating here though, cause I have blogged about this dress before…

Today’s Dress of the Day is this gorgeous Marchesa gown:

Do you recognize it yet? It’s the dress Olivia Wilde wore to the Golden Globes last year:

If I ever had a gala or award ceremony to go to, I’d so want a dress like this (or any Marchesa dress actually, most of them are gorgeous). It’s available on the US Outnet for the lovely price of $3599.10.

These shoes from etsy store Aisha Voya are so glittery! I don’t think I would ever wear these myself (unless for a fancy dress party or something like that), but they’re definitely geeky.

Star Wars Rebel Alliance Glitter Shoes $70

Sailor Moon Artemis and Luna Glitter Shoes $85
