I’ve got 3 mini reviews for you today: Skyfall, Frankenweenie and Madagascar 3. All three movies should still be in cinemas at the moment; if you have to pick one, choose Skyfall!

Skyfall

Awesome. I went to see this yesterday at the IMAX and loved (almost) every bit of it. Daniel Craig is again perfect as Bond. Javier Bardem is great as the villain, part crazy, part creepy with a touch of genius. And I loved Judi Dench and Ben Whishaw as M and Q. I think the only thing that bugged me was the London tube stations and interiors; as a Londoner I couldn’t fail to notice how wrong some of the bits were (still it was loads better than Total Recall where it was supposed to be London, but they used New York style trains and stations). Skyfall is a great movie though and I think it may be my favourite Bond movie ever.

Frankenweenie

I think I would have liked this a whole lot more if I a) hadn’t seen the trailer and b) hadn’t seen the short film it was based on. It’s a sweet story about a boy and his dog, but a lot of it is predictable and those parts that weren’t were already in the trailer or in the short movie. I did love how it looked though. The black and white visuals looked a bit meh in 2D, but in 3D it becomes so much more vivid and alive.

Madagascar 3

Circus Afro, Circus Afro, Polka Dot, Polka Dot, Circus Afro. I can’t get that song out of my head (I tried typing out the da da da bits, but I just got crazy counting the da’s and trying to figure out how it phonetically would make sense). I enjoyed the first Madagascar and was pleasantly surprised by its first sequel. So I was quite curious to see how well this third movie would do. This time around our 4 furry friends want to get back home to New York and join a circus in the hope of reaching their destination. The plot is a bit predictable, but it’s fun and enjoyable.

Do you want to feel like a Bond girl? All you need is this dress:

This design by Amanda Wakely is worn in Skyfall by Bond girl Naomie Harris and looks awesome. It’s a rerun from the label’s 2011 fall/winter collection and can be yours for just £995. Eek.

It’s available in three different colours: Peridot, Moss and Persian. Which colour do you like best?

It’s Skyfall day! As I said in my previous post, I’m so excited to see this movie. I’ve heard so many good reviews about it and am really curious to see if it’s any good. I loved loved loved Casino Royale, and hated Quantum of Solace. We need a good Bond movie again! Are you planning to see Skyfall this weekend?

Our second Bond related post of the day is this fun campaign from Heineken for the new Skyfall movie. Help Daniel Craig and Berenice Marlohe to crack the case, in this interactive personal experience. Do you have what it takes to be a special agent?

So did you play it? I did find it funny seeing my own photo placed everywhere; I chose a black and white photo of myself and thought they managed to embed it quite neatly. I was a bit disappointed by the game though. I was expecting at least a bit of code cracking or puzzling, but all you need to do is find the case and click on it. If that’s all it takes to become a special agent…

Cool Stuff: Licence To Drive

October 26th, 2012

Yay, Skyfall is out today in the UK! So I’m celebrating that today with a couple of Bond related posts. I’ve got myself some tickets to the IMAX tomorrow, and can’t wait to see it!

This is a cool infographic from Evans Halshaw featuring the different Bond cars through the years. They’ve also got a pretty cool interactive version which you can check out here.

James Bond 007 Cars Evolution

Everyone has a favourite Bond – and a favourite Bond girl – but what’s your favourite Bond car? Infographic by Evans Halshaw. View the interactive version here.

Evil Dead

I love the original Evil Dead movies, so I’m not that excited to see a remake of the first one. Especially one that is gorier and more gruesome. Part of the charm of the original is how cheesy and creepy the effects were. This new one just looks like gore for the sake of gore. Release Date: April 2013 (US, UK)

Carrie

Another remake movie, but this one I’m actually interested in seeing. I think Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore have been perfectly cast in this and can’t wait to see how they turn out. Release Date: March 2013 (US), April 2013 (UK)

Safe Haven

Safe Haven is about a young woman with a mysterious past who lands in Southport, North Carolina where her bond with a widower forces her to confront the dark secret that haunts her. It’s based on a Nicholas Sparks book (The Notebook, Dear John, Message In A Bottle), so get your tissues ready. Release Date: February 2013 (US)

Django Unchained

There’s already been a previous trailer for this new Tarantino movie, but this latest one shows a bit more of DiCaprio’s character. Release Date: December 2013 (US), January 2013 (UK)

I loved the first book of Jean Johnson’s Theirs Not To Reason Why series. It’s a great blend of military fiction and sci-fi with an awesome strong female protagonist. Plus it’s got a great wide universe with a lot of different species and backstories, which I had been looking for (I wanted something like Mass Effect but in book form and this pretty much is that). I can’t wait to read the second book in this series!

Here’s the description from Amazon:

Have you decided yet on what to wear for Halloween? I’m still trying to come up with a couple of outfits to show on MissGeeky, but in my quest of finding the right pieces I came across these awesome horrific shoes:

These pumps would be great for a ton of Halloween outfits: zombie bride, Carrie, serial killer nurse, female Dexter, what would you wear them with?

Trailerrific: Iron Man 3

October 23rd, 2012

Ooooooh, the first trailer for Iron Man 3 just got released! This looks great:

It’s 10 days till Halloween! To make things a bit interesting around here I thought I’d do 10 days of 10 Halloween related posts.

Lush always does some great limited edition Halloween items and this time around they’ve got the awesome Jacko ballistic:

It smells like clove and cardamom! I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love those wintery type of smells.

Jacko is available at Lush.co.uk for £3.50.

You’ve most probably already seen this video (it’s got over 3 million views on YouTube already), but I couldn’t resist posting it here. It’s an awesome ad from Coke Zero to win Skyfall tickets:

I also quite like their other Skyfall ad:
