Les Miserables is one of those musicals of which I know the words of its most famous songs, but have never actually seen in its entirety. I am really looking forward to it though; the cast looks amazing. Ever since the 2009 Oscars, I’ve wanted to see Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway do a musical together (on a sidenote: I found out that Hugh Jackman’s opening number that year, which I keep on watching over and over again, was actually written by Community’s Dan Harmon! Awesome!).

Anne Hathaway sounds great! It’s not the prettiest version I’ve heard, but I’ve always found that this song doesn’t necessarily have to be sung prettily; Hathaway brings the right type of distress and sadness into it. I can’t wait to see the final cut of this!

Another song I’m really looking forward to is On My Own. They wisely cast Samantha Barks in the role, and she can definitely sing this song:

Geek + Geek = Awesomeness. I love John Scalzi‘s books, and was already looking forward to his next book, Redshirts (gee, I wonder what that would be about?). I also love Jonathan Coulton‘s songs. Put those two together and what do you get? The new theme song for Redshirts:

What if the afterlife was ruined by lawyers? This is an awesome video created by Tom Scott. It’s been out for a while now, but I just hadn’t gotten around to posting it; ah well, better late than never:

Ooh, most of the networks have released trailers for their new Fall TV shows! There are some shows that show potential, some that don’t grab me at all (but will do well with others) and some that I think just will fail miserably. I don’t think I’ve seen a trailer yet that’s screamed at me: “oh my god, oh my god, this is so awesome, I need to go watch that”.

First network I’m covering is CBS who are premiering 4 new shows this Fall: Elementary, Vegas, Made In Jersey and Partners.

Elementary

*cough* Sherlock rip-off *cough*

I think if BBC’s Sherlock hadn’t happened, then this would have looked potentially interesting. Then again if BBC’s Sherlock hadn’t happened, this wouldn’t have either; it’s clearly riding the coattails of the buzz that Sherlock created (and the Sherlock movies with Robert Downey Jr.). I like the twist of making Watson female, and the leads look like they have chemistry, but I’m scared that this is going to be very procedural (don’t forget, it is CBS).

Vegas

When I heard the description of this I wasn’t interested at all. But seeing the trailer with Dennis Quaid, Michael Chiklis and Carrie-Anne Moss has got me a bit more interested. Very curious to see how this does.

Made In Jersey

I think this will go on my To-Watch-If-I-Don’t-Have-Anything-Else-At-All. It looks like it could be fun, but I don’t think it will survive a full season.

Partners

Will & Grace 2.0. I’ll give it a go, cause of Michael Urie and Brandon Routh, but I didn’t laugh at all during the trailer (not a good sign).

As a kid I used to love Lego, and I always find it cool when it’s used in interesting and different ways. This is such a fun photo series by Elroy Klee, called Mindplay: bricks on me, where he gave his models Lego as hair! Can you imagine how uncomfortable that must be? Also, I’m guessing the model in the first photo has her head bent like that, cause otherwise the Lego wig would fall off.

I thought I’d start a new recurring blog post all about dresses; I keep coming across pretty (and sometimes geeky) dresses I want to share with you all! And to keep it in line with my Video of The Day and Photo of The Day posts, I’m calling it Dress of The Day.

First up, is the polka-dot dress from Dorothy Perkins (available here for £52):

Video of The Day: RUIN

May 24th, 2012

After last week’s post about NBC’s new show Revolution, Reinier commented that some shots were taken from the short movie RUIN. I hadn’t seen RUIN yet, but it’s an awesome short:

Turns out Bad Robot asked the creator permission to use those shots, but as far as I can tell he’s not involved in the project in any other way. My guess is that the studio still needs to get their own CGI/matte shots done and the RUIN shots were only for the promo. It’s still a good 4 months until the show airs, so they should come up with something just as awesome.

Wow, this illustration by Anna Rettberg is awesome! I instantly recognized most of these characters; I think the only ones I struggled with were from shows that I haven’t watched (only 2 actually: Arrested Development and Breaking Bad). How many can your recognize?

Here’s all the characters in the picture:

Back row: Dwight (The Office), Caprica 6 (Battlestar Galactica), Dr. House (House), JD (Scrubs), Tobias (Arrested Development), Liz Lemon (30 Rock), River (Firefly), Jack and Vincent (LOST), The 11th Doctor (Doctor Who), Walter (Breaking Bad), Rick Grimes (Walking Dead)

Middle row: Buffy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Bill (True Blood), Jeff (Community), Quinn or really any other cheerleader from (Glee) and honestly could be Claire from (Heroes) if you’d prefer, Barney (How I Met Your Mother), Don Draper (Mad Men), Dexter (Dexter), Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock)

Bottom row: Sheldon (Big Bang Theory), Spock (Star Trek:TOS), Chuck (Chuck), Sydney Bristow (Alias)

Window: TARDIS (Doctor Who), USS Enterprise (Star Trek), Galactica (Battlestar Galactica), Serenity (Firefly)

I’m loving the second season of Game of Thrones; I can’t believe there are only two more episodes left! This tee has been making the blog rounds, and I love seeing Daenerys as a sort of Disney princess. Makes me wonder how some of the other characters would like disney-fied.

It’s 10 days to the Eurovision Song Contest! I always find it so cheesy, but it can be great to watch with a huge group of (sarcastic) friends. Most of the time I don’t bother looking at the entries before the day, except to see what the Netherlands and the UK were doing. When I heard that San Marino’s entry was called The Social Network, I just had to watch it. And wow…
